Polo Tuition

The Polo Club

The Campamento Polo Club is in Sotogrande, the centre of polo in mainland European. On the southern coast of Andalucia, Sotogrande is located conveniently close to two major international airports: Malaga is a 45 minute drive from Sotogrande and Gibraltar a mere twenty minutes. Both airports are within three-and-a-half hours flying time from London.

Sotogrande is a mecca for polo players from around the world and the facilities on offer are second-to-none: as well as the actual polo ground, the club boasts an indoor school, stick and ball grounds and classrooms for theory coaching. With PoloSkool programmes, all theory coaching will be offered by John Morton.

The Campamento Polo Club was formed in March 2006 by Nick Williams, father of England professional and six-goal handicapper Roddy Williams, John Morton and Dominick Mahony with a view to offering polo lessons to beginners and existing players alike. Along with tuition programmes, the idea was to offer plenty of opportunity for practice chukkas and low-goals tournaments. For future years, it is hoped to run a full calendar of events at polo grounds in Sotogrande, as well as in nearby Jimena, Jereth and Saville.

Situated as it is on the southern-most tip of Europe, Sotogrande enjoys almost year-round sunshine and is rapidly becoming known in the polo world as the “Palm Beach” of Europe.

The Costa del Sol offers a diverse wealth of alternative activities for those looking to get the most out of their break – most notably the renowned golf courses of Valderrama (host of the 1997 Ryder Cup) and San Roque are just ten minutes drive from Sotogrande. The towns of Estepona and Marbella are within easy reach and, there, you can take part in activities such as sailing, scuba diving, shooting and all manner of water sports. Indeed if you join us between the months of December and April, you could be playing polo one day and then heading to the Sierra Nevada mountains the following day to hit the slopes – the ski resort is just three hours drive from the polo grounds. It really is a special part of the world!
